Hello everyone My preparations for the 2012 season are in full swing. I have been lucky enough to be a part of the UKA / London Marathon altitude programme for the past 12 months. I really feel that having the opportunity to spent so much time training at altitude has been career changing for me. I spent 4 weeks in Kenya pre Christmas where we train and live at 2400m above sea level, the benefits of training at altitude are massive for distance runners as it helps to increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the red blood cells. We also have miles of hilly trails to train on, a gym on site, physiotherapy, massage and good healthy food provided. We had some challenges to...
Read MoreBack in January, the i2i Newsletter talked about the right attitude for 2011. We had 1 year ahead, 365 days, 8760 hours, 525600 minutes which is simply 31,536,000 seconds! Plenty of time hey? Plenty of time to achieve that dream, plenty of time to change the direction of your life, plenty of time to make things happen. So how did you get on? As it’s nearly Christmas, I thought I’d give you an early present for next year. It’s the same deal for 2012, you’ll get the same amount of time and a little bit more (It’s a leap year!) Rather than ’5 Gold Rings’ at Christmas, my gift to you is ’5 Gold Things’ to achieve those...
Read MoreAs the 2011 season came to an end there is time to rest and recover and look back at the success of the season and also to critique yourself and find things to improve upon. I made the trip to Loughborough to meet with my coach, John Nuttall to discuss the season and to plan for the year ahead. I think he always looks forward to this meeting as I am always armed with a very long list and am ready for a good debate. This years list was declared a PB (Personal Best). I am always looking to do my best performance even when it comes to my lists! So the plan is in place, the target to improve on my 11th place at the world championships and produce the race of my life in the...
Read MoreHello and welcome to my first blog for i2i. First, a little bit of background information. I am a middle and long distance runner and have been representing Great Britain for the past 13 years at an International level. I am a double Olympian, a Commonwealth medalist, a British record holder and European champion and have 40 GB honours to my name. WOW! That’s an impressive list, even if I do say so myself! So, why did I suddenly find myself being labelled as ‘old’ and in the ‘autumn’ of my athletics career? Well I am 37 years old, classified as a veteran in athletics, my performances hadn’t slipped, of course there are always ups and downs...

Read MoreChange in business needs to be done right to maintain momentum and keep teams motivated. We relocated the i2i office recently and we had a great day packing up our gear and moving to the new office. This event brought with it some interesting thinking. Such as what’s going on the walls? What are we proud of to have displayed? However, change doesn’t have to be a physical move. It could be a change of strategy or simply a change in the way things are done. This brings with it some harder questions, especially for the team members. What is now expected of each member of staff? What new methods will they have to learn? What are we all aiming for? Change is about...
